When I checked my email this morning upon arriving at work, I received an email from Chris Baty, originator of NANOWRIMO – National Novel Writer’s Month. I had signed up for Nanowrimo a few weeks ago, but wasn’t really taking it seriously. I am a nonfiction writer. I DID do NanoWrimo back in 2004 and it was quite an experience, but I really took much of my material from real portions of my own life and a lot of it was answers to my continual question “what if…”. I would highly recommend it to anyone who really wants to experience the frustrations of staying on target and the joy of completing something tremendous, relatively speaking.
So, just for fun I read his email. He’s a great enthusiastic “cheerleader”, and I couldn’t help but smile and get excited as I read through his “summary of what to expect” for November. As a result I am even fidgeting with the idea (I better decide FAST!) of doing a nonfiction project “under the table” for NANOWRIMO. 1,667 words a DAY for a MONTH. Whew.. I’m amazed I did it once.
